What Makes a Good Life for Young Parents?

Author: Office of the Children's Commissioner | Oranga Tamariki (Ministry for Children)

This report summarises insights from 15 young people under the age of 18 who were themselves parents.

The report presents the key themes heard from these young parents.

  1. We need to feel supported and valued to be good parents
  2. Education will secure our future and our children’s future
  3. We need to be financially secure and have our basic needs met
  4. We love our children and we want the best for them

The Office of the Children's Commissioner hoped that this report would inform policy and practice development for services to support young parents. This was the first of a series of summary reports from February 2019’s What Makes a Good Life? report.
