A youth-led project, developed by young people for young people, is helping young Cantabrians live life well every day. The team at BOUNCE share wellbeing tips and advice with their peers to empower them and encourage emotional wellbeing and resilience.

BOUNCE is a New Zealand Red Cross project that was initiated post-earthquakes by a group of young people. Today Bounce shares tips for wellbeing through its social media platforms and events.

There are five themes that BOUNCE uses to encourage youth wellbeing:

  • Keep doing what you love - Whāia tō ngākau (follow your heart)
  • Treat your body well - Tiakina tō tinana (Nurture your body)
  • Connect with others - Hononga tāngata (Build human relationships)
  • Make a difference - Whankakōnekeneke (to make a difference)
  • Know yourself - Matawai (to reflect / reflection).

“Our mission aligns with the Red Cross mission, to improve the lives of young people by mobilising the power of humanity and enhancing community resilience. In short, Bounce is a bunch of tips, ideas and inspiration shared by young people to help other young people,” says Jayden Meads from Bounce.

The BOUNCE team is particularly passionate about helping young people to help other young people in their communities.

“We're run entirely by a group of rangatahi who are committed to helping other rangatahi engage with our five kaupapa (our principles). With young New Zealanders struggling with mental health and suicide we believe it is important to share a positive wellbeing message on how to live life well,” says Jayden.
